Jackson) must find a way to work together again–which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.

CAFE ZIMMERMAN (CRS) – Sun (Sept 23) 2:30pm

Café Zimmermann in Leipzig provided the backdrop for a series of now legendary public concerts led by J.S. Bach. 

Alexander Weimann (harpsichord) is one of the world’s leading interpreters of Baroque music. A multiple JUNO and GRAMMY nominee, he is conductor of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra.

Finnish-born Soile Stratkauskas (flute) found her passion in the pure and eloquent sound of the wooden flute. She is the founder of the Victoria Baroque Players.

Chloe Meyers (violin) is concertmaster of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra. She played first violin on a JUNO award-winning recording of Handel arias featuring soprano Karina Gauvin.

Beiliang Zhu (cello) won 1st prize at the 2012 International Bach Competition in Leipzig. She was the first string player to have received this honor on a Baroque instrument.

Since winning major prizes at the Concours musical international de Montreal and Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, Philippe Sly has  performed leading roles with l’Opéra de Paris (Cosi fan Tutte) and the Aix Festival (Don Giovanni). Recently he sang in Berlioz’s Les Troyens with the Strasbourg Philharmonic and John Nelson; Bach’sSt. Matthew Passion with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin; and Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Kent Nagano.

Michael McMahon has performed with many of Canada’s greatest singers, including Maureen Forrester, Karina Gauvin, and Gordon Bintner, earning him the reputation of being a “luxury partner.” Associate professor at McGill University, he leads the Song Interpretation class and teaches English and German diction for singers. Several of McMahon’s recordings have been nominated for JUNO awards. Many of the singers and pianists that he has coached work in major opera houses around the world.

LAURENCE KAYALEH, violin, & Michelle Mares, piano (CRS) – Sun (Nov 25) 2:30pm

Laurence Kayaleh is an artist of deep musical insight. She possesses the impeccable technique and innate musicality of the grand tradition of violin playing. Her career has taken her to prestigious music centers internationally, including Paris, Prague, Moscow, Brussels and Geneva. She has been the soloist with Zurich’s Tonhalle Orchestra and Geneva’s Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Laurence Kayaleh performs on a magnificent 1742 Pietro Guarneri violin, which belonged to the eminent violinist and pedagogue, Carl Flesch.

Michelle Mares is a native of Vancouver, amassed significant performing experience from an early age as a child prodigy. She received her performance degree from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and later studied with Alfred Brendel and György Kurtág who had great influence on her as a musician. She has led an active performing career in both Canada and Europe spanning the entire repertoire as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed with virtually every major orchestra in Canada as a soloist.
